23. Metroid There's no doubting that Ridley Scott's Alien heavily influenced Gumpei Yokoi, creator of Metroid. Even one of Mother Brain's lieutenants serves as homage to the director. The entire game transpires in the claustrophobic tunnels beneath the alien world of Zebes, where Mother Brain is breeding Metroids, energy draining organisms she plans to use to destroy civilization. You play as Samus Aran, intergalactic bounty hunter, and perhaps the only female sci-fi character tough enough to beat Alien's Ripley in a fight. Metroid's gamplay is all about exploration, as Samus tracks down her power armor upgrades which are hidden in the subterranean labyrinth of Zebes. She'll need to be at the height of her power to defeat The Mechanical Organism, Mother Brain, and save the universe from the threat of the Metroid.
