24. Diablo
PC role playing games were never really known
for their adrenaline-pumping action or their mainstream appeal.
Diablo changed all that. Utilizing a simple point and click interface,
cutting edge graphics, and randomly generated levels, Diablo
sprang onto the sales charts in January of '97 like a Prime Evil
out of Hell and changed the way we role play on the PC. The game
also featured a dark gothic style complemented by Blizzard's
unique sense of humor. Add in extremely customizable character
classes and literally thousands of items, stir, and serve online
for maximum effect. Were it not for Diablo, modern day games
such as Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, or Divine Divinity
would have never seen the light of day. |
